On 20 August 2014 was performed maiden flight of an electrically driven aircraft VUT 051 RAY. Take-off followed immediately after series of taxiing tests carried out on the same day. The aircraft spent in the air 27 minutes, total batteries capacity had not been used. The maiden flight took place under the supervision of the Civil Aviation Authority. The aircraft was developed in collaboration departments of the Brno University of Technology (Institute of Aerospace Engineering and the Department of Power Electrical and Electronic) with JIHLAVAN airplanes (manufacturer of small sport aircraft). Main purpose of aircraft is to verify the possibility of electric propulsion in aviation.
