The Institute of Aerospace Engineering (IAE) is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology. For over 30 years, it has been providing education to future Profesional pilots, Aircraft designers, and specialist at field of Airtransport and Aeroport Technology.
Study Programs
Students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience through project-based courses and involvement in research activities. The Institute provides education in:
Bachelor’s degree programme → Professional pilot, 3years, CZ. Part of the education is to provide specialized courses and pilot training at the VUT Pilot academy.
Master’s degree programme in the study programme Aerospace Technology with specializations:
- Aircraft Design, 2 years CZ
- Airtransport and Aeroport Technology, 2years CZ
- Aerospace Technology, 2 years, EN, corresponds to the specialization of Aircraft Design
Postgraduate doctoral programme in the field of Design and Process Engineering. The research activities constitute a range of significant research and development projects.
Research and Development
The institute is involved in high-level research projects, both in grant-funded initiatives and contractual research for industrial partners. It is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software, measurement equipment, and extensive laboratory facilities. Key research areas include aerodynamics, structural strength and reliability, composite material development, and optimization of aerospace structures.
Industry Collaboration
IAE also provides commercial services mostly in aviation technology development, equipment testing in an approved laboratory and consultation services. Its certified aerospace testing laboratory is regularly utilized by domestic and international partners. One of its major projects includes participation in the National Aerospace Competence Centre (NaCCAS), which was established with the aim to concentrate and streamline the use of R&D capacities of 3 top research organisations and 7 innovative companies operating in the progressive high-tech aerospace field.
